Flight Simulator Titles Out-Flying Console Rivals on Value
As the economy remains on shaky ground, gamers are taking to the skies in order to find value-for-money.

With a down turned economy, gamers are being forced to reconsider their purchases on console titles which can cost upward of $65 and, instead, are turning back toward a more traditional, proven game genre which boasts literally hours - often even weeks and months - worth of entertainment for some of the most modest amounts.
Video game blogger and self professed 'gamer geek,' Darcy Stach, spoke recently on what this shift in gamer mentality means and exactly why he believes the flight simulator genre is soaring back to popularity.
"We've been going down this path for quite some time now. Large video game developers have noticed in the past that the 'masses,' are happy to pay top dollar for a console title, despite its obvious game play flaws." said Stach.
"There has undeniably been a shift in that mentality of late, however, as money becomes more and more tight and gamers are finding it increasingly difficult to justify forking out $50-$60 for a title that will only give them 5 - 8 hours' worth of entertainment."
"The flight simulator genre has always offered players unrivalled freedom; it allows you to literally fly anywhere in the world, in one of hundreds of different planes. It is challenging, thrilling and can truly suck you in for weeks on end. I'm not at all surprised to hear that gamers are turning back to the good old flight sim." Stach concluded.
Gamers have long echoed these sentiments, calling for video game titles to provide more of a challenge to its players and offer a 'less linear,' storyline focus. Whilst many titles have been released claiming to be 'open world' - the premise being that the player is free to go where they want, whenever they want within the digital environment - many of these titles have proven to over-promise and under-deliver.
As console game prices show no true signs of dropping, it seems that the humble flight simulator continue to take off and land on more and more PCs across the nation and, in fact, the globe. While some gamers hold their collective breath to see how the developers of console games respond, many others will be holding their own whilst trying to land a Boeing 747.
