Hicksville, NY (prHWY.com) January 24, 2013 - One of the major reason that led to mobile device revolution for Android and iOS is their focus on creating an app driven ecosystem. Creating a secure and reliable system of providing hassle free apps (especially iOS) has made these mobile giants retain more than 90% of the smartphone market. However the dominance of these two mobile operating system has made the mobile carriers wary of their shrinking profits. Carriers are hinting an inclination towards other platforms to ensure the power balance. Ubuntu mobile that was released recently is posed as a substantial contender but Android app development and iPhone app development experts argue, that their respective mobile operating system has undergone massive development in the last few years and mobile OSs making an entry at this phase is less likely to grab attention of Mobile App Development companies.

Apps are not the central factor but the development cycle
Android and iPhone app development experts have come a long distance in developing applications and keeping in sync with the periodic version update in both operating systems. From a fundamental interface supporting basic touch navigations to multi-touch, widget driven UIs, iPhone and android app development companies have faced numerous technical challenges and opportunities from these updates. "The iOS team at Apple, currently working on it's 7th generation release with project butter from Android on other side will have larger and substantial appeal to mobile app development companies. A newly released OS on the other hand such as Ubuntu mobile which is yet to find a device maker is not a lucrative bet as of now" says Jayneel Patel, Managing Director at Openxcell Technolabs.

UIs alone cannot pull it off
Ubuntu supports both intel and ARM 86 architecture and comes neck to neck with iOS and Android in hardware support. However, providing relatively a differentiated UI for mobiles, will not make users switch their existing platforms. A critical mass of users is highly necessary if the makers want to persuade the mobile app development community to develop apps for ubuntu mobile. Considering the example of Windows Phone, it is clear that people are not really enthusiastic about UI differentiation. Even when the Lumia came packed with serious features and applauded by tech geeks, it was not persuasive enough for the pool of users to switch to Windows.

As of now, the android version of Ubuntu mobile seems like an attempt to flex its tech muscles under the android turf. Infact native apps for ubuntu mobile can be developed using openGL and QML APIs hence apps for android devices can also be made compatible with the OS. In any case if a prominent device maker for android ties with with canonical then situation might change for mobile app developers. However it does not seem to be happening soon as samsung is busy pushing BADA while HTC and Sony have struggled a lot to appear significantly after Samsung in the list of android brigade.
