(prHWY.com) December 21, 2012 - Washington, D.C. -- Researchers at the Stanford Graduate School of Business included the
natural family planning method CycleBeads® in a series of case studies developed to explore the challenges of commercializing health-innovations in the global market place. These case studies examine lessons learned by global health innovators when scaling up social innovations.
CycleBeads and the related iCycleBeads apps are visual tools that help women use the Standard Days Method®, a highly effective, natural family planning method that enables a woman to plan or prevent pregnancy naturally by simply tracking her cycle. The tools help a woman determine when her
fertile days occur each cycle, and know if she is on a day when pregnancy is possible or not.
"CycleBeads is a simple tool and is very attractive to individuals and programs looking for a non-hormonal, effective, and easy to use natural family planning option" said Leslie Heyer, President of Cycle Technologies, "However there are challenges with offering any health innovation and the case studies developed by the Global Health Innovation Project at Stanford really explored some of the issues that we have faced."
One of the key issues described in the case studies is "stakeholder resistance". As Dr. Victoria Jennings, Director of the Institute for Reproductive Health at Georgetown University, and one of the inventors of the Standard Days Method and
CycleBeads said, "The [family planning] space has been very doctor-focused, very medicine-focused. So the idea of a family planning method that allows women to do something very simple to understand and control their own fertility was extremely challenging."
