JUNEAU, AK --(December 03, 2012)- A joint venture from humble fire chief, Donald Bernard and entrepreneur, Don Varden introduced a fishing company that could potentially take the salmon fishing business up to new heights. The company has provided a new avenue for virtually anyone who wants to go fishing for personal sport or even for business yet also contributing back to the community by providing local opportunities.

Commercial fishing has been long popular in Alaska, with the abundance of wild marine life and sustained by the regulations of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G). Alaskan seafood includes 5 different species of Salmon: Pink, Sockeye, Chinook, Chum, and Coho. Other seafood in this area includes the halibut, cod, flatfish, and different species of crabs, shrimps, sea cucumbers and sea urchins. The salmon species alone is enough for any fisherman to be enticed for a good game in Alaskan waters.

Bernard and Varden saw this local industry as an opportunity to invite even those outside of Alaska to enjoy or profit from this activity. For Don Varden, Alaska was simply the most suitable location for this business venture.

Bernard met Varden in a fishing trip in Auke Bay Harbor during an annual fishing trip. Bernard had a particularly good day, catching several species of salmon. It was with Bernard's 33 inch Silver (Coho Salmon) that prompted Varden to comment that he might be able to catch a King (Chinook Salmon) with his lucky streak. Bernard hosted a Barbeque, where the two men got into a serious discussion about their passion for fishing and entertained the idea of sharing this opportunity to the rest of the country. Discussing how Juneau's climate and abundance of local resources are ideal for sport and business.

Don Bernard registered the company name "Don Varden Bernard Associates" with the Alaska Department of Revenue shortly after Varden's initial research. The rest of the paperwork, which included acquiring a licence from ADCBPL, simply followed.

The company, although based in Juneau, provides transportation to regulated fishing locations over Alaska's 40,544 miles of coastline for both marine and fresh water fishing. The company's expertise adds convenience to the fishing process from all the paperwork required to a well-facilitated (guided or unguided) fishing activity. Business-wise, the company also accepts fishing orders and handles everything from catching the fish, processing them and shipping them.
