The concept of exclusive buyers agents is new in most areas of the country, although the West Coast has more states that condone them. Traditionally, all agents actually represented the seller, no matter who they were showing the house with. Then in the 1970's, it was decided that buyers deserved their own agents (since most thought their agents were working for them but that was not, in fact, the case).
