Dubai Municipality is dedicating a full day to celebrate the emirate's rich maritime heritage during the first-ever "Dubai Maritime Week 2012" being held from November 25 to 30, 2012. The move is in line with the Municipality's commitment to support the inaugural event, which is being organized through the cooperation of Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) and Seatrade with the aim to promote Dubai's position as a major international maritime destination in the region and worldwide. The event is also being supported by a number of strategic partners, including Dubai Customs, National Transport Authority (NTA), DP World, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Seatrade.

In line with the efforts of the Architectural Heritage Department to include Dubai Creek (Khor Dubai) among the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Dubai Municipality is conducting today a dedicated workshop during the event to highlight the role of Dubai Creek as a vital water passage that has largely contributed to the economic and cultural development of the UAE and the Arab world over the past decades. Attended by international experts, the workshop is discussing the various features of the Creek and its global significance as a leading heritage and cultural landmark.

Dubai Maritime Week 2012 will host a wide range of specialized events, including conferences, panel discussions, interactive workshops and dedicated seminars in collaboration with strategic partners from various Dubai government authorities. In addition, there will be a series of public-oriented activities to celebrate UAE's rich maritime heritage, namely its fishing and pearl-diving tradition.
