Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced that it is offering a free life jacket for every jet ski that is registered in Dubai, underlining the commitment of the Authority to adopt best practices and maintain high standards in maritime safety and security. The move is in line with the Authority's efforts to ensure maximum safety and security in Dubai's waters, and ultimately prevent maritime accidents and save people's lives, while promoting Dubai's position as an ideal destination for all types of water sports.
The new initiative complements DMCA's continuing campaign to raise awareness about the importance of wearing life jackets and how it can save lives. The Authority is committed to promote maritime safety while supporting and organizing various water sports activities in Dubai that comply with best international practices. DMCA has also introduced new regulations and legislations that are designed to ensure that maritime activities do not pose any threat to people, the environment or facilities, therefore promoting Dubai as an international hub for maritime excellence and efficiency.
Mohammed Al-Bastaki, Director of Maritime Operations, Dubai Maritime City Authority, said: "The new initiative is in line with the significant increase in demand for jet skis and the growing interest in water sports in Dubai. Offering free life jackets with every registered jet ski is one way of encouraging water sport enthusiasts to comply with the highest standards of security and personal safety. Wearing a life jacket prevents drowning in case of accidents in the water."
Al-Bataski further added that the initiative was launched on the sidelines of the ongoing Dubai Maritime Week 2012, as part of the Authority's efforts to introduce regulations and legislations governing water sports in Dubai. The new regulations identify specific places in the emirate for jet skiing, determine the appropriate speed limits, outline maritime safety instructions and promote greater awareness about best practices and the proper way of riding jet skis to avoid accidents and drowning. Moreover, it was a timely initiative as Dubai has witnessed an unprecedented number of jet ski and other water sport events on its waters in the past summer, which underlines the importance of DMCA's mission to create a secure and ideal maritime environment for all water activities.
"We are committed to work hard and cooperate with other government authorities in Dubai to find suitable ways to maintain maritime safety and implement best international practices, particularly in various water sports activities such as jet skiing," Al-Bastaki concluded.
