Dubai Culture and Arts Authority launches series of art and cultural events during 'Dubai Maritime Week 2012'

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has launched today (November 25, 2012) a series of art and cultural events at the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, formerly known as the Al Bastakiya, on the sidelines of the "Dubai Maritime Week 2012", the first-of-its kind event in Dubai, being held from November 25-30. The events were attended by Walid Al Hamadi, Director of Human Resources Management, DMCA and Eman Al Shamsi, Assistant Manager - Communications, DMCA.
The Authority's participation in supporting and sponsoring this key event, organized by Dubai Maritime City Authority in cooperation with Seatrade, comes as part of its commitment to support joint efforts to further strengthen Dubai's competitive position on the world map. The cultural events include an art exhibition featuring works of several prominent Emirati artists reflecting the maritime environment, short and long films and documentaries about the UAE's maritime heritage and culture. Also on the agenda are art workshops for painting and photography, in addition to performing arts shows and marine crafts such as making nets and other fishing gear with the participation of divers and fishermen.

Dubai Maritime Week 2012 also features a diverse portfolio of maritime events, including conferences, discussion sessions, interactive workshops and specialized forums with the
participation of a number of strategic partners from government departments in the Emirate of Dubai as well as a range of activities specially designed for the general public. The underlining goal is to celebrate the UAE's rich maritime heritage that revolved around fishing and pearl diving. Among the entities supporting Dubai Maritime Week are Dubai Municipality, Dubai Customs, National Transport Authority, Dubai Ports World and Seatrade.
