(prHWY.com) October 20, 2012 - Mississauga, Canada -- In order for your Internet Marketing business to succeed your site must be optimized to get the attention of the search engines. There are a few dos and don'ts that you need to keep in mind. There are ways to not only get your site optimized, but also keep it optimized on a regular basis.
Due to the ever changing SEO rules, you have to make sure you are on top of the latest SEO information. Below are just a few of the dos and don'ts in SEO.
First you should know who you are dealing with. There are hundreds of search engines on the internet. The Three main search engines are Google, Yahoo/Bing and MSN. It's obvious that Google owns more than half of the market share, but the others are not far behind. Google and Yahoo/Bing also power many of the smaller search engines as well. For example, Google powers the free listings on AOL and Netscape as well as Ask Jeeves and Lycos. Yahoo powers the free listings on MSN, AllTheWeb and HotBot.
It's safe to say that Google calls most of the shots and delegates the rules in the search engine arena, so it's important to always stay ahead of the curve by knowing what they look for and what they expect. When you tailor your site's SEO around that, your page rank will continuously increase. Keep in mind, however, that Google and Yahoo! power many of the smaller search engines.
Search rules changes are inevitable. Although it's great to monitor the changes of the actual search engines, it's not enough. Search engines also change their algorithms the use to rank websites. They try to avoid having site owners manipulating their indexing methods in order to get higher ranks. So they often change the algorithms the prevent that. They are on top of these manipulations and when they find out that a trick has been used, they figure out how to catch them and change their algorithms.
You should be careful not to be so quick to jump into some great strategy that some marketing expert tells sells you. It's possible to get banned from the search engine listing if you get caught.
Dos of legitimate SEO
* Relevant sites linking to your site
One of the major contributors of search engine page rank is the amount of relevant sites that link back to your site. It's not just any sites that should be linking to your site. They must be niche relevant and be of good quality. If you are a dog trainer and you sell dog training resources and you have health food sites linking to your site, it will do no good for you. The sites must be related to your niche and of have quality content on their site.
The search engines also look at the online presence the site has and their page rank. If you have a high ranking site linking back to your site it looks great for you. However, you should have a mixture of high, medium and low ranking sites to your site. That is more legitimate.
