CAT 2012, convener Prof SSS Kumar has said there will "certainly" be no change in the pattern of questions and "the pattern of CAT 2011 will be followed this year as well."
(prHWY.com) September 19, 2012 - Noida, India -- Putting to rest all speculations on the pattern of CAT 2012, convener Prof SSS Kumar has said there will "certainly" be no change in the pattern of questions and "the pattern of CAT 2011 will be followed this year as well."
As 21-day test window for CAT 2012 is scheduled to begin in less than 25 days now, the CAT convener told MBAUniverse.com that aspirants should focus on their preparation strictly keeping in mind the pattern published in the CAT 2012 brochure.
"We have carefully analysed the last year's pattern. It worked very well and we will stick to it this year too," Prof Kumar said, adding, "There will not be any deviation from the pattern which is already in the public domain."
Prof Kumar said CAT will stick to what was announced in its admission brochure. Asked whether any last-minute change is possible in the pattern, Prof Kumar said, "I certainly have no doubt about it that we will go ahead with what we have announced."
CAT 2012: Following the last year's footprint
CAT is known for changing its pattern frequently. It made a few changes in the pattern during 2011. A unique feature introduced in 2011 was the time-bound sections. The exam will start with quantitative ability & data interpretation, followed by verbal ability & logical reasoning, each of 70-minute duration. CAT takers will not be allowed to move to and from between the two sections. However, they can move within the sections.
Each of the two sections will have 30 questions. The total duration for the test is 2:20 hours without a break in between. While three marks are awarded for every right answer, each wrong answer brings down the total score by 1 marks.
According to Dr Janakiraman Moorthy, convener of CAT 2011, the change in the pattern was aimed at reducing the chances of getting candidates with 'skewed efficiency' for IIMs. "The reason why we had reduced the number of sections from three to two was because we wanted proficient students at IIMs. We want students who are equally competent in quantitative ability as well as verbal ability. Till the previous year, we had students with skewed efficiency," he had said.
The registration process for CAT 2012, which started from July 30, comes to an end on September 19. The last date to buy the CAT voucher was September 17.
The computer-based CAT 2012 will be held in a window of 21 days, from October 11 to November 6.
While the pattern of CAT and other entrances like IIFT, SNAP, NMAT, and CMAT remains unchanged, two of the key MBA entrance examinations -- XAT and IRMA -- have brought some changes this year. To read more on this, click:
