(prHWY.com) September 14, 2012 - Seattle, WA -- One of the most common fears people have is of flying. There are numerous herbal and medical remedies on the market that claim to help people overcome their fear of flying, but a dentist based out of Oregon claims to have the secret weapon when it comes to flying - sedation dentistry.
"Many of my patients have a fear of flying", said Dr. Travis Willows. "It was about a month ago that a group of them went in for their routine check-up and then the next day went off on a trip that required at least eight hours in a plane. Those individuals came back to me saying they weren't afraid at all and the only thing different was that they went to my dental practice before they went flying."
It appears as if the new type of sedation that Dr. Travis was using could stay in the system up to 48 hours later. This allowed the individuals to feel calmer and better about flying.
"I had no idea that the sedation would stay in the system for so long", said Dr. Travis Willow. "It wasn't until the group of travelers came into my office to tell me that they were able to fly without anything. I thought they were joking until they asked if they could schedule their check-up closer to when they travel again. I knew then that they weren't joking"
The group of travelers had tried numerous techniques. They had tried sedative pills, hypnosis, herbal pills and calming techniques. This was the first time that many of these people were able to fly without feeling afraid.
"I have always felt afraid of flying", said Randy Hollows. "It was amazing because I didn't have to take a hundred pills or sit back and relax. It really was a relief."
Dr. Travis has contacted the company that manufactured the
sedation tools that he used to see if this has been reported. Several sedation dentists have already contacted Dr. Travis to mimic his sedation techniques.
Dr. Travis upon finding that sedation dentistry worked as a helpful tool for fearful flyers is thinking of running a special. The special will allow people who are about to fly to receive a discount on check-up services or other dental services.
"I hope that I can encourage people to visit their dentist with this special", said Dr. Travis. "People are afraid of both and I think this is a great way to get them to overcome both of their fears."
