(prHWY.com) August 27, 2012 - New York, NY -- San Antonio, TX - Balance Bikes 4 Kids is now featuring the SS-1 Super Strider balance bike for kids ages 6-10 on its online retail site. This pedal-less bicycle is the next evolution from Strider Sports, popular balance bike manufacturer who created the original Strider preBike.
This new balance bike for older kids offers both a way for school age children who have struggled with learning to ride to take full advantage of the balance bike method. Strider Sports also positions the bike as an off-road alternative to heavy pedal bikes that will allow young kids to experiment with BMX-style tricks without the complications of pedals or the heavier weight of a standard pedal bike. At only 15 lbs in weight the bike is light, but supports kids up to 120 lbs.
"There aren't a lot of balance bikes for older kids, but there are plenty of older kids still learning to ride a bike," said Sherry Mabry, owner of Balance Bikes 4 Kids.
The "Super Strider" takes many of the best things about the smaller Strider ST-3 and improves on those features. It's 16" aluminum-rim spoke wheels feature pneumatic air "dirt jump" tires. It also has a handbrake, something that's not available with the ST-3. The patented Strider Launchpad footrests are integrated into the frame to over riders a firm footing for advanced skill riding.
Ryan McFarland, CEO of Strider Sports International, believes that the SS-1 Super Strider is the next logical step in the evolution of the Strider Sports brand. "We are so excited to introduce the SUPER STRIDER," McFarland stated. "It's a natural next step for both the company, and our family of Strider Riders. Life really is more exciting on two wheels... and with the SS-1 SUPER STRIDER living the Strider Life just took on a whole new dimension!"
Balance bikes have been a popular method for teaching kids how to ride a bicycle in Europe for more than a decade. The trend is gaining acceptance here in the United States where more parents are skipping the training wheels and teaching kids to ride on these bikes without pedals.
"I'll tell anyone who will listen that training wheels are a waste of time. There's only one way to teach your kids to ride a bike. That's with a balance bike," said Mabry.
Despite the rising popularity of balance bikes, there are relatively few models aimed at kids over the age of five. The Super Strider joins Glide Bike's Go Glider as one of the very few metal frame balance bikes that support kids weighing more than 100 lbs.
