Healthcare reform: What to expect from your insurance carrier
6.3.12 Healthcare reform mandated privated insurance companies to cover annual preventative exams in entirety. This will likely impact insurance policies. Andy Juster describes the changes and what businesses need to know.
(prHWY.com) March 7, 2012 - Ca, AR -- 6.3.12 Orlando, FL -- Under the proposed health care reform act, preventative health appointments will be covered 100% for individuals with private insurance. The new coverage begs the question, how will this impact the rest of an insurance policy?

Andy Juster, of Payroll HR Benefits, states that insurance policies will continue to offer coverage for a variety of appointments and procedures. However, these costs may impact other areas of coverage, such as co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance.

To cover these costs, insurance companies are increasing the prices of their plans. Businesses will have to decide if they are willing to pay more for each employees' insurance or reduce overall insurance costs by selecting higher deductibles, copays and hospitalizations, states Juster.

Juster suggests businesses offer a variety of plans to their employees, and let employees choose the plan that best suits them. He suggests businesses offer their employees a lower priced plan with higher deductibles, copays and coinsurance, as well as traditional "richer" plans with lower limits. This range generally satisfies a diverse employee base. Juster notes, employers who are unsure about what insurance plans to offer employees should talk with their professional employer organization representative.

As for the future of private insurance, Juster does not predict insurance plans will change dramatically in response to the mandatory coverage, however he does believe there will be more caveats in the policies.
