It is a walnut-shaped gland that develops the fluid component of semen. Basically prostate cancer is a disease in which cells in the prostate gland become unnatural and begin to grow uncontrollably, forming tumors. It is responsible for helping control urination as well as forming part of the semen. It is located at the base of the urinary bladder. Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. It initially remains confined to the prostate gland, where it may not cause serious harm and it usually grows slowly.

There are two types of prostate cancer, one that grows slowly and perhaps need no treatment, other can be fast growing which spreads more quickly. Some of the cells break off and spread to other parts of body through the blood or the lymph, a procedure known as metastasis as the tumor grows. Even these new tumors can cause death. There is a better chance of successful treatment if this disease is found in the early stage. The very first symptom of prostate cancer is difficulty in urinating. There are lot more prostate cancer symptoms which include sexual dysfunction, blood in the urine, , swollen lymph nodes in the groin, frequent or painful urination and pain in the ribs, hips, pelvis and back. The chance of this disease is more if it's a genetic problem. Treatment may include chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy, radiation therapy or a combination of any of these above.

There are 4 stages of this type of disease. The first one is when it is not at all possible to detect it, which is known as the earliest stage. The second one is that when it can be felt but yet not confirmed. The third stage can be when it has spread into adjacent tissues and last but not the least stage, when the cancer has gotten beyond one's reach.

This disease often comes with number of unique symptoms because of its prostate's location in the body. Until the cancer has grown large enough to put pressure, it normally causes no symptoms. However, there can be many drastic symptoms if the cancer grows out of reach. Urination is the main problem associated with this type of disease. Some of the common symptoms are:

* Frequent urinating

* Blood in your semen and urine

* Feeling that your bladder has not emptied fully

* Burning or pain during urination

* Difficulty in starting or stopping the urine flow

* Swelling in your legs

* Difficulty in having an erection

* Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs

* A sense of incompletely emptying the bladder

* Inability to pass urine (this can occur as the cancer enlarges, blocking the urethra)
