(prHWY.com) December 15, 2011 - Seattle, WA -- Imagine living in a small enclosed area for several months. That's exactly what a Mississippi man has decided to do all in the name of raising awareness for
colo4n cancer. Mike Short rented a tiny moving pod, decorated it like a small studio apartment and will move it all across the country. On his journey across the country Short will make frequent stops where he will collect donations that will go to a group dedicated to finding a cure for colon cancer.
"Colon cancer is a very devastating disease. Four years ago to the day I lost my father to this awful cancer. Instead of wallowing in self-pity for my loss I thought I'd do something to raise awareness", Mike Short said while sitting outside his moving pod at a stop in Tennessee.
Moving pods at traditionally used by families and individuals who are storing or moving large amounts of materials from one place to another. They appeal to movers because the company will bring the pod to the home instead of requiring families and individuals to have to take the time to get the pod themselves.
"Moving pods are strictly for use as an easy-to-use storage and moving facility for people who are moving", said a spokesperson for the Mississippi moving pod company Mike Short used. "This one-time use of a moving pod as a mini-apartment will not be repeated. We liked that Mike wanted to raise awareness for a cause he holds close to his heart and we thought we'd help him out. There are no future plans to allow individuals to rent pods as a small apartment."
Along with accepting donations that will go to a medical institute dedicated to find a cure for cancer, Mike will also be doing motivational talks at local colleges and health fairs, and passing out informational pamphlets. The informational pamphlets contain information on what is colon cancer, how to detect this cancer, treatments and personal stories of others who have been affected by this disease.
"If just one person goes to their doctor and has colon cancer detected early then I've done my job", Short said. "I just want to raise awareness and make people realize just how serious this cancer can be and that it can happen to anyone no matter where you live or how you grew up. It's what my dad would have wanted and I like to think he's looking up from above and say 'Good job son'."
