Larry Eugene Weicht II is proud to announce that he participated in a breast cancer awareness walk with his family in St. Pete, Florida, on October 22. He hopes that, by example, he can encourage more men to participate in the walk next year.
"I had an absolutely amazing experience on the walk this year," Larry Eugene Weicht II says. "I met so many breast cancer survivors and their families, and I found their stories so inspiring. I think it's something all men would enjoy participating in."
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and most major cities around the country have breast cancer awareness functions during that time. Some of these walks are used to raise funds, and walkers are asked to solicit donations from their friends and coworkers. Other walks are just used to raise awareness, and walkers are encouraged to just talk about their participation. Either form of walk does real good in the fight against breast cancer, according to
larry eugene weicht ii.
"I was surprised at the number of women who are impacted by breast cancer every day," Larry Eugene Weicht II says. "This is a true public health emergency. Women need to know that the risk exists and they need to talk to their doctors about their risk factors. Even if a walk does nothing but encourage a woman to have that conversation, it's worth doing."
Larry Eugene Weicht II is a deep-sea fisherman and a golfer, so he's in reasonable shape. But he points out that most breast cancer awareness walks can be tailored to fit any fitness level. "Some cities even have really short walks that kids can do,"
larry eugene weicht ii says. "Poor fitness shouldn't keep you from participating."
To find a breast cancer awareness walk in the area, people can talk to their local chapter of the American Cancer Society, or they can go to
http://www.nbcam.org/ and run a search for events in their area.
