(prHWY.com) May 4, 2011 - California, CA -- Why Handcrafted Soap?
Often people ask us about the difference between handcrafted soap and the soaps we see every day in stores. I can best answer this question by telling them about the experiences that brought me to the soap maker's table many years ago.
I have always lived with dry skin; especially in winter. When I was in my early teens I tried to avoid wearing dresses because I couldn't hide my dry, chapped legs no matter how much lotion I used. As I grew older this condition grew worse. Sometimes, in winter, my skin would itch so much that often at night I couldn't sleep.
Then one day while my husband and I were traveling we stopped in an ice cream store in central Montana, and there I found a display of handmade soap. I purchased a bar of Peach, and when we arrived home I soon used it. I thought the lather was rich, and creamy, and it had a wonderful scent. It wasn't until a week or so later that I noticed the real difference between this soap and the other soaps I had been using. Within days my skin was soft; not nearly as dry as it had been. I was delighted, and I had to know more about making handmade soap.
I soon learned that glycerin is a natural by-product of the soap making process, and that commercial soap makers often remove glycerin from the soap, process it, and sell it to other industries where it is used in various products. I learned that with handcrafted soaps the glycerin, which attracts and retains moisture on your skin, remains intact. Years later...and hundreds of practice batches later Soapbyrustyb.com LLC came to life on the
