PM Cameron Seeks Ties with India During a Three-Day State Visit
British PM David Cameron is in India for a three-day state visit to talk to the government and business sector not only about valuable deals but most importantly, to convince them to cut regulations against trading and investments with UK businesses.
(prHWY.com) February 25, 2013 - London, United Kingdom -- Mr Cameron hopes that he will accomplish the goal of making Britain India's "partner of choice" when it comes to business. He seeks to see more UK companies present in a "more open, more flexible" Indian economy. As he meets with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee, the PM is hopeful that he can open up talks with regards to breaking down the walls that impede both countries from creating better ties.

The British prime minister also believes that this nation in South Asia is "one of the great success stories of this century". He added that India will become a "top three economy" in the next decades, particularly by 2030.

"I want Britain to be its partner of choice, helping to build those motorways, helping to provide those universities, helping to invest in healthcare and also encouraging Indian investment back into the UK", he said in a BBC interview.

He did take note of India's practice of corruption, at the same time admitting that rogue trading also exists in Britain. "I don't come here to preach to anybody, but clearly every country has to be on their guard against bribery and corruption as the Indians themselves know", the PM added.

Aside from discussing business, another key agenda of the visit is to address issues over the tightening of UK visa rules. To answer this, the PM said that Britain is not limiting the number of Indian students to study in the UK, provided that they pass English language qualification and are accepted in any university or college.

In addition, the prime minister mentioned about making Britain's visa system much easier especially to Indian firms.

The British PM arrived last Monday in Mumbai with representatives that include the London Underground in the field of transportation, English Premier League for football, BAE Systems for security measures, and Rolls-Royce for automotive. The group went straight to the Unilever headquarters for a press conference.
