Threats on the internet come in all forms, as we have learned that no entity is immune from cyber-crime, no matter how big or small that entity is. Your only defense it utilizes various protection tools that are available on the market.
(prHWY.com) February 25, 2013 - Beaverton, OR -- Not shockingly, another well know website: NBC.com has been hacked. In response to NBC.com hacking, Facebook has decided to block its users from posting any NBC links. Apparently, when users attempt to post links related to NBC.com, they get an error message, prompting that the feature is unavailable at the moment. What's more, when someone clicks on an existing NBC.com link already added to someone's Facebook profile, a message pops up, warning the user that this link has been reported as abusive.
NBC.com has confirmed the hacking incidence; however, they have assured their users that no personal data has been stolen. In addition, Google and Bitly have reacted by warning their users to expect security problems if they intend on visiting NBC.com, as there may be a possible threat to their online privacy.
According to Jonathan Ladd of New Software's, the virus that infected NBC.com was a Red Kit malware. This malware exploits security loopholes in Java and Adobe reader, and it can easily spread to different websites, if it's not contained. According to Ladd, newer viruses are being developed to exploit existing security loopholes in cyberspace, shockingly; most organizations are unprepared for such viruses, and as a result, their reputation and their users' privacy may be compromised.
Since Google came to know about this virus on NBC.com, it has blocked all users-- using their chrome web browser from visiting the site, prompting them that the site was infected with malware. In the past many banking websites were affected by this virus, the virus managed to steal login credentials related to thousands of users.
Ladd warns that users should not take viruses lightly; they should always be alert and keep themselves up-to-date on the latest threats to their online-privacy. Ladd urges internet users that they should always lock folders containing sensitive data with data security software and to always update their antivirus software.
