Peak 9 Restaurant at Summit Vacations Breckenridge Ski Resort is set to Close After 2014 Ski Season

(prHWY.com) February 18, 2013 - Breckenridge, CO -- Peak 9 Restaurant, the last independent eatery at Summit Vacations Breckenridge Ski Resort, is set to close its doors after the 2014 ski season. Known for its variety of home cooked soups and other popular food dishes, the restaurant's lease is set to expire next year. Owner of the last independent dining spots and [url="http://www.summitvacations.net/"]Breckenridge accommodations on the mountain, Kevin Brown, plans to retire then reopen the restaurant at another location in Breckenridge.

"I just don't have the energy to do that," Brown said. "Up here it's such a unique situation. I love it, I come up in the morning and it's beautiful. I can take a walk a around the building, take a quick snowshoe up the hill, clear my head and get ready for the day. In town, it would be a 24/7 thing." Many of the restaurant's customers, who have stayed at the legendary Breckenridge condos, used to eat at Peak 9 as children and now bring their own children to dine there while visiting the ski resort.

"We have been planning for a long time to transition that restaurant back to our own operation," Breckenridge Ski Resort spokeswoman Kristen Stewart stated in an email to the Summit Daily. "The lease model has been used at many ski resorts including Aspen, and now that we have developed our own expertise in mountain dining, it's logical to operate it. We truly appreciate the partnership that Kevin Brown and the Peak 9 team have provided over the years.

Under the original owner, Barbara Tunnicliffe, Peak 9 thrived in the early years of existence and eventually earned a reputation for serving good food and providing a friendly-family atmosphere.
