Indianapolis adoption agencies that combined in 2004, is preparing a family picnic and a support group for birthmothers in the coming year.
The agency held their first Family Reunion Picnic in October 2011. The event brought together adoptive families to share stories and experiences. Given its success, the organization is planning another picnic this year to help bring joy to more parents and children as well as unite sponsors, volunteers, and other participants. The agency will provide further details on when and where the upcoming picnic will be held.
Additionally, after successfully holding birthmother support group meetings last summer, St. Elizabeth/Coleman is planning to convene more sessions at dates that are still to be finalized. Ideally, this group will meet for 1 ½ hours on a given day for six straight weeks, giving participants opportunities to share experiences and lend support to each other. Last summer's four participants now keep in touch with one another despite not having known each other at first.
The agency also calls on interested individuals to help with their plans and projects for this year. They offer one-time and repeat volunteer opportunities. Aside from providing assistance with event planning, volunteers can also help with general clerical tasks, yard work, and donations.
Aside from being a noted adoption agency, St. Elizabeth/Coleman also serves as a
pregnancy center for Indianapolis women and their families, who may be in need of donations or referrals to community resources.
