(prHWY.com) February 18, 2013 - Eugene, OR -- Eugene, OR - Founding their company in January, 2011, these college-aged entrepreneurs are demonstrating how a small business with the right product can quickly blossom into a nationwide enterprise. It's a story everyone loves ... Two college roommates, Erika and Keeley, not even 21 at the time, ran out of peanut butter on a Friday night in their apartment on the campus of the University of Oregon. Plain celery just wasn't an option, so out came the new food processor, raw peanuts, and a number of other ingredients, including cinnamon, raisins, chocolate chips, coffee, and coconut.
Soon, life as they knew it was taken over by test batches of various gourmet nut butter flavors, jars, labels and trips around campus on their bikes giving out samples. These flavored peanut butters were so tasty, they were destined to become more than just an afternoon snack: Wild Squirrel Nut Butter was born.
Initial sales of their new, all-natural peanut butter were made strictly to friends, family, and UO students. Due to its popularity, shortly thereafter sales were being made at the Street Faire on campus, farmers' markets, and a few local stores in Eugene. The website came online even while deliveries were still being made by bicycle. Now, two years later,
Wild Squirrel Nut Butter is sold in over 350 stores around the country, and current plans are to have it available in hundreds more within a few months.
