While a loose band or bracket may be a minor thing, the individual may swallow either one accidentally if it is not taken care of promptly. For this scenario, Dr. Munholland suggests to leave the loose band or bracket in place and apply wax on it. He adds that the person should wrap the bracket with tissue if its wire comes off.
Another scenario involves discomfort or pain due to wire irritation. Dr. Munholland recommends either pushing the poking wire down carefully with a pencil eraser, or applying some wax on it to lessen the discomfort. For braces, one may feel a degree of soreness in the mouth or tenderness to biting pressures. Should the tenderness be severe, the orthodontist also suggests taking whatever one normally uses for headaches or similar pain.
