(prHWY.com) January 2, 2013 - Utah, UT -- Alex Lifeson's work with progressive rock legends Rush has consistently pushed the envelope, since his earliest work with the prog pioneers in the'70s. But, I guess, if your band-mates were Neil Peart and Geddy Lee, you'd feel some pressure to deliver the goods (!) Well at home in this esteemed company, however, Lifeson's virtuoso playing has ensured his own place, alongside his cohorts, in the musical history books. In recognition of his hugely influential work, he was recentlty bestowed with his own signature guitar, the Gibson Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess. And, as you'd expect from a sonic pioneer such as himself, it has a few tricks up its sleeve that set it apart, somewhat, from most Les Pauls.
As the name suggests, it is loosely based around the Les Paul Axcess(http://www.gibsonlespaulaxcess.com/alex-lifeson/). With two, high-output humbucker pickups, switchable between series and parallel wiring via a push pull volume pot and sharing the Floyd Rose licenced vibrato unit of the Axcess, there are a great number of creative options over a standard Les Paul. Scrutinising this bridge further, however, reveals the Alex Lifeson Les Paul as a different beast indeed. Equipped with GraphTech Ghost piezo bridge saddles, the more traditional magnetic pickup tones can be blended via a volume control with the more 'acoustic' sounding tones that the Ghost pickup is capable of, making this one of the most sonically versatile Les Pauls ever built. To add to the flexibility of this guitar further, it features a mono output jack, that features the 'blended' signal of both pickups, and separate stereo jack, which provides a separate output for each pickup, with one in the left channel and the other in the right.
