Company Promotes Individual Workers Based Off of Finding Hidden Message in CMMS Software
Companies often determine who will be promoted based off of performance reviews, time on the job, and previous work experience, but one company has decided to work on a new way to promote people.

"What we decided to do was hide a hidden massage inside our CMMS software", explained the spokesperson for the HR department at the Stafford Company. "We use the CMMS software a lot, especially in the supervisor's position. We figured a hidden message would help us determine who knew how to work the system."
The hidden message was placed in a small section on the CMMS software. Employees would see the message if they followed proper protocol when using the system. The message asked that the individuals report to the human resource department immediately to report a problem.
"It may sound surprising, but only 10% of our employees that we know saw this message reported to the HR department", said the spokesperson. "We wanted people who knew how to use the system and those that would take the initiative to report the problem to HR as the instructions said."
The employees that reported to HR were awarded with the opportunity to apply for the newly vacant supervisor's position. In total, there were 25 employees who interviewed. Those that interviewed have mixed reactions about the way the promotion was handled.
"I was surprised when I got the box on my screen that asked me to report a problem to HR", said Michael Street. "I have never seen anything like it before. I was just glad I wasn't tapping into some secret files at work and going to be fired or something."
Other employees weren't as thrilled about this secret code as others were. Some thought it was a waste of time on the company's part.
"I really think the company could have spent their time doing other things", said Travis Matthews. "I mean they couldn't find a suitable employee to fill the position without this little test. I don't think it was necessary."
The company said that the majority of their employees like the little test, and that the next vacant position would be handled in a similar way. The position of the secret box will be changed, but the CMMS software will be a major part in the hiring process.
