HBMeU meets with Institute for Educational Planning to identify initiatives to improve education in Arab World

As part of the on-going drive for academic excellence and promoting better quality of education in the Arab World, Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor, Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University (HBMeU), recently received Mr. Khalil Mahshi, Director, UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), and Mrs. Mahra Al Mutaiwei, Director, UNESCO Regional Centre for Educational Planning (RCEP) in Sharjah, to discuss various means of cooperation to improve the quality of education in the Arab World, while promoting the role of education leaders and scientific research in the society.

Al Awar gave a detailed presentation about the University's framework, departments, academic programs, learning methodologies and research agenda and international initiatives, and discussed the outcome of the International Council for Open and Distance Education Standing Conference of Presidents 2012 (ICDE SCOP 2012), a recently concluded first-of-its-kind event in the Arab World hosted by HBMeU. Al Awar further emphasized the importance of organising regular meetings and interaction among regional and international leaders in education and scientific research, such as the International Institute for Educational Planning and the Regional Centre for Educational Planning in Sharjah. He reaffirmed the University's strong commitment to enter into more international and strategic partnerships to help achieve the highest levels of excellence and quality across the education sector in the Arab World.

Khalil Mahshi pointed out that the IIEP focuses on reforms in the education sector by promoting industry leaders in developing countries, especially across the Arab World, while providing the highest levels of training and scientific research and studies in the field of education planning to keep up with emerging developments associated with economic and social development. He emphasized that this visit complements IIEP's commitment to build channels of communication and cooperation with leading universities and academic institutions in the region such as Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University, which is not only the first e-learning and distance learning institute in the Arab World, but is also a leading advocate in introducing a new education paradigm as well as programs of development and scientific research in accordance with the best international practices and quality standards.
