Dubai eGovernment lauded for contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based economy

Dubai eGovernment Department has recently hosted a delegation from the Department of Information & eGovernment in Sharjah at its headquarters at the Dubai Ruler's Court. Led by Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Director-General of the Sharjah Department of Information & eGovernment, and accompanied by different managers and senior officials, the visiting delegation was briefed on Dubai eGovernment's eTransformation experience and its strategies to automate various government transactions with the public and business community, which has helped strengthen Dubai's position as a leading regional and international economic hub.

The visiting delegation was received by Dubai eGovernment officials in the presence of H.E. Ahmed Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai eGovernment, who shed light on the key milestones and success stories of the Department since its inception in 2000, including the launch of centralised eServices for local government authorities and the public. Humaidan further outlined the need for greater inter-department visits and collaboration to enhance communication and cooperation among local government authorities and to share best practices and expertise that contribute towards the digital transformation of the UAE.

"Dubai eGovernment is committed to sharing its best practices and experiences to support federal and local government entities in their own efforts to promote digital transformation and realize our common objective of strengthening the UAE's standing in the global economy, under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We look forward to supporting the ongoing efforts by Sharjah's Department of Information & eGovernment to boost government services in the emirate," added Bin Humaidan.

For his part, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qassimi commended the achievements and success of Dubai eGovernment, underlining the keen interest of Sharjah's Department of Information & eGovernment to benefit from Dubai eGovernment's leading experience in providing eServices to government authorities and the public, based on reliability, transparency and innovation. He added: "The meeting with the directors and other officials of Dubai eGovernment served as an interactive platform to be better understand their best practices and strategies, while allowing us to leverage their specialized competencies, which are key pillars to achieve government integration and to establish a knowledge-based digital economy."

In a presentation by Huda Al Hashimi, Director of GRP Department, Dubai eGovernment, the delegation was introduced to the services provided by the Department to other government entities and the public. She demonstrated the role of the standard systems used by more than 40 Dubai government entities to achieve the Department's ultimate objective of establishing an integrated eGovernment with a robust HR framework and financial efficiency. This is based on sound financial management systems, human resources systems, payroll system, purchasing, inventory, enterprise project management and asset life management system in addition to eJob and eSupply facility.

Sumaia Bin Hammad, Director of Business Development and Communications Department, Dubai eGovernment, then conducted a detailed presentation of innovative services such as ePay, mPay, mDubai, eSurvey, Ask Dubai, unified eComplaint and eSuggest, eHost and GeSS.

Matar Al Humairi, Director of Infrastructure Management Department, focused on infrastructure-related shared services, explaining their critical value to improve the quality of services and ensuring integration across all electronic systems in Dubai Government. He explained the importance of the Government Information Network (GIN) as the cornerstone of Dubai Government's electronic infrastructure and the backbone for linking government entities through high-speed communication to ensure smooth integration and secure and reliable exchange of government information at the most competitive cost.

During the visit, the delegation was also introduced to the internal automation strategies adopted by government departments in Dubai under the supervision of Dubai eGovernment, offering more than 2,000 eServices to end-users as a springboard for future progress.
