Jennifer Jankauskas Celebrates Remarkable Weight Loss
Jennifer Jankauskas, a middle school English teacher north of Atlanta, celebrates the loss of 104 pounds.

"I had set a goal for myself of 100 pounds," the educator said. "I'm happy that I was able to meet that goal, and take it 4 pounds further. Now, I'm more motivated and committed than ever to keep that weight off, and continue getting in better shape."
Weight loss had been a goal on Jennifer Jankauskas's horizon for several years. However, it wasn't until Jankauskas lost both her grandmother and mother-in-law to cancer that she was motivated to take her health more seriously.
"Losing both of them, especially so close to one another, was difficult for me," said Jennifer Jankauskas. "Since I was providing caregiving services to both of them - on top of my career and professional commitments - it was certainly a challenge. However, they both provided an impetus for me to lose weight, and be more health conscious than ever before."
Though Jennifer Jankauskas has been running 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races for several years, including the country's largest 10-kilometer race (the Atlanta Peachtree Road Race), she recently added running and jogging to her exercise routine.
"I've always been an achiever," said Jennifer Jankauskas. "I went to school for three different degrees, I've founded and directed numerous after school and weekend programs for students who need help, and I've learned more than I really care to know about grant writing in order to secure funding. So, when I really put my mind to weight loss, I knew that sticking to a workout routine would require the same diligence."
After losing the 104 pounds, the award-winning middle school teacher took a day trip to Georgia Skydive in Cedartown, Georgia, where she fulfilled a lifelong dream by skydiving. "I guess you could say my students think I'm crazy," joked Jennifer Jankauskas when asked about the experience. "But, I'm a big believer in the idea that when you work hard to achieve a goal, you work just as hard to reward yourself!"
