Australian Retail Stores Awarded for Interior Design reports Interior Designer

Emphasis on luring potential customers into stores stronger than ever

international platforms, with the Retail Design Awards of Australian naming the retail

fitout design and 2012 International Store Design Awards in New York, which recognizes the

world's best.

Melbourne's interior design practice Russell & George has been tapped as the international

winner of the Soft-Line Speciality sector, as well as the Special Award for Innovation

The design firm was nominated the previous year by IDEA and won the 2011 Australian

Interior Design Award for Retail Design.

International Store Design Award jurors noted the space as aesthetically pleasing, with a

clear branding message.

"Every aspect of the design reinforces the Crumpler brand: the aesthetic is strong, clear

and not at all overworked," they said. "Overall, the store entry is an exercise in 3D form,

material exploration, customer experience and brand identity."

Also recognized as one of the country's top retail hubs was Oscar and Wild Camberwell by

architectural firm Matt Gibson Architecture & Design. It took home third place in Retail

Design, following Saba on Collins Street in Melbourne by Hecker Guthrie, and first-prize

winner Pinto Tuncer for Groom Spa.

The Australian interior design awards showcase the sector as a whole, helping to increase

awareness of the achievements, and thus increasing competitiveness.

Competition from online retailers have pushed interior designers within the retails field

to extend themselves above the normal means, creating a shopping experience that is

enjoyable to motivate people out of their homes and getting them into the stores.

The award-winning designers and Australian retailers have pushed the designs to find that
