London, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) April 20, 2011 - London - This is advantageous in that it is possible to see such a dentist even after hours and because one will have researched on the best dentist. These emergencies include severe toothaches, swelling resulting from abscess or infections, the falling off of fillings or crowns, broken dentures, broken or chipped teeth, knocked-out teeth, extruding teeth, fractured teeth and swelling and pain as a result of a wisdom tooth.

So, how is emergency dental care given? Dental abscess, a common mouth infection, starts in the mouth and it can spread to the throat, the jaw and the face. This condition is usually caused by bad dental care and bad dental hygiene. The condition is characterized by inflammation of the infected tissue, excessive pain and pus on the infected area, tender gum, nausea, fever, vomiting, chills and sweating, in a severe case. The condition is treated by the emergency dentist by draining the pus surgically under anaesthesia and prescribing drugs, including painkillers.
Teeth are made of 3 layers, the enamel, the dentin, and the pulp. The pulp (or the root canal) is an important part of the tooth and it can be removed once it is damaged to save the tooth from extraction. A root canal procedure, or endodontic treatment, is a popular emergency dental care procedure because saving the tooth retains your smile and enables you to continue chewing effectively. A root canal procedure is performed whenever the pulp is infected, mostly due to cavity, and when the pulp is damaged beyond repair resulting from a fracture or direct trauma. Signs that a root canal is due include overly sensitive teeth, pain with touch, swelling around the infected tooth, trauma, and discolouration. Emergency dentists will check for damage, X-ray the tooth or use an electric pulp tester, remove the damaged pulp, clean the canals, fill the canals with resin material, and then cover the crown.

Teeth get knocked out during a fall, as a result of direct trauma to the face such as from a fight or from an accident, and after biting something hard. This is characterized by facial swelling, change in tooth colour, and bleeding. Emergency dentists could place the teeth back to their socket and stabilize them, using plastic bonds, metal arch bars, or orthodontic wires. They could perform root canals, or they could remove the teeth and replace them with prosthetic teeth. An emergency dentist will also solve toothaches resulting from other problems such as tooth decay from cavity, an exposed root, gum disease, jaw muscle spasms, tooth extraction, and the eruption of wisdom teeth. In most cases, pain killers are used to relieve the pain as the dentist tries to solve the root of the problem.
