Fashion Designer William Malcolm Highlights Students And Michigan Men With His Annual Scholarship Contest And Distinguished Man Of Benevolence Awards

Troy, Michigan November 2, 2012. William Malcolm, Detroit based fashion designer and humanitarian believes that young men must be highlighted and encouraged to pursue excellence. This is why he established the William Malcolm Man of Style & Substance Scholarship Contest. The goal of this annual competition is to create a platform by which Metro Detroit area high school senior males are rewarded by their excellence in educational endeavors, and volunteerism. www.WilliamMalcolmManOfStyleAndSubstance.com
"Our community must creatively address the issue of our young men growing up without fathers and positive male role models," says William Malcolm Founder of The Man Of Style And Substance High School Scholarship Contest. "The impact of fatherlessness on American communities is devastating and our youth are losing this battle"
The Michigan High School Seniors will have various tasks to complete including a Scholarship Weekend that will include a conference that will be presented by several male mentors on topics such as: the purpose of man, chivalry, community service, gentlemanly etiquette, interview preparation, education goals and financial literacy.
The contest will culminate with an oratorical contest that will be held at the Man Of Style & Substance Selection Gala November 16th 2012 at the Michigan First Credit Union's Banquet Facility located in Southfield Michigan. The students are competing for a prize and scholarship package worth over $10,000.
The gala is free and open to the public and it will be hosted by William Malcolm and Jacqueline M. Northrop, Principal Consultant at Scarlet Communications. Jacqueline and William also co- host the Coffee And Community Radio Show; a positive, inspiring Detroit based weekly radio program on AM1500 WLQV.
The gala event will serve dual roles as William will once again honor and present eight Michigan men with a Distinguished Man Of Benevolence Award. William created the Distinguished Man Of Benevolence Awards in 2009 as a way to thank and honor men from Michigan who by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. William believes that recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and inspires others to make service a central part of their lives. The William Malcolm Distinguished Man Of Benevolence Award recognizes men from the state of Michigan that have achieved a certain standard of service measured by their dedication to volunteerism and leadership to the Michigan community.
