Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced that the inaugural 'Dubai Maritime Week 2012' will run from November 25 to 30. The highly anticipated, first-ever maritime event in the region is being organized by DMCA through close cooperation with Seatrade and is expected to attract high-profile government officials, industry professionals, experts, operators and ship owners in the UAE and across the region to discuss the latest maritime issues and challenges.
The 'Dubai Maritime Week 2012' is a key initiative to promote Dubai as a leading regional and international maritime destination. The event is part of a strategic plan to develop the maritime industry in Dubai by enhancing the emirate's regional and international maritime competitiveness, while establishing a robust industry in compliance with the highest standards and best international practices in leadership, excellence, creativity, cooperation and environmental stewardship. This is in line with the vision and directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an integrated environment that supports the growth of the maritime industry in Dubai and ultimately drive the economy and contribute to long-term development.
Amer Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Maritime City Authority, said: "It is with great honor that we receive the support of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al
Maktoum. This truly reflects the government's continuing efforts in leading the journey towards excellence in Dubai and the UAE, while reaffirming the strategic importance of this highly-awaited event to promote Dubai as the premier host of major maritime industry events. Dubai Maritime Week will serve as a tool to build better trade relations and conduct high-profile panel discussions to look into the latest maritime issues and developments."
"Dubai Maritime Week 2012 is an important platform to promote effective communication among local, regional and international maritime leaders, experts, suppliers, economists, analysts and investors to discuss major issues and maritime strategies. This is in line with the first-of-its-kind plan in Dubai to develop the maritime industry and promote its role in the development and growth of other vital sectors, while contributing to the growth of the GDP and Dubai's competitive position in light of the changing global economic landscape," Ali added.
"Dubai Maritime Week 2012 is part of DMCA's ongoing efforts to leverage Dubai's position as a leading regional and global hub for trade and business. It also helps consolidate the strategic importance of Dubai as a leading destination for companies specialized in maritime transport management, offshore services, education and research, ship repair and maintenance, and many others. We are confident that this high-profile event will serve as a prominent platform to highlight the great progress Dubai has achieved, especially in terms of modern infrastructure development to drive the growth of the maritime sector," Ali added.
Dubai Maritime City Authority has prepared a range of programs especially designed for Dubai Maritime Week 2012, including an information drive to raise awareness on the dynamic role of the maritime sector as an integral part of Dubai's history, along with a panel discussion on various aspects of maritime safety. The event is expected to host a series of cultural and arts events at Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, formerly known as the Al Bastakiya district, organized by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, in addition to interactive workshops and specialized seminars organized by Dubai Municipality.
The inaugural Dubai Maritime Week 2012 is being organized through the close cooperation between DMCA and Seatrade, one of the leading publishing houses and maritime-related event organizers in the world. The event will feature the 'Seatrade Middle East & Indian
