Modelling scams in UK on the rise
A model's biggest bane: Scams to watch out for

One of the most popular UK Scams is makeover studios. Models are enticed by promises of helping them their confidence through training, when these studios don't really even work without the modelling industry. The makeup artists and photographers would probably be just students trying to make ends meet and that means - no real experience or training. "This is becoming increasingly common. So many portfolio making studios are cropping up all over UK and hardly a handful of them are really legitimate. In order for a model to be able to know whether a studio of worth a makeover or even a portfolio, he or she MUST always take a look at the website and read up on the staff. This way, they can get a vague idea of the background and experience, which means the mode can add some credibility to the photographers, makeup artists and dress coordinators", says a successful model.
Another very popular scam is training school or 'modeling boot camp'. Unless the classes are held by a former model or an agent who understand the ins and outs of the modelling world and exactly what it demands, the classes are really worthless. After all, for a model to excel, she needs a push in the right direction. "We hear of so many boot camps for models and hardly any of them churn out models worth their salt. It isn't really the fault of the girls; greedy scammers lure girls with the promise that they have what it takes to be a supermodel, ask them to spend tons of money on classes and then disappear, while the aspiring model is left jobless and penniless because she was never cut out for the modelling world in the first place. Before a model takes classes, it is very important she gets in touch with 3 to 4 agents and see if they all suggest she takes extra lessons to improve. Even then, it is best to choose a reputed modelling class, even if it costs more, rather than choosing a cheaper unreliable option", states a top modelling agent.
The easiest way for models to avoid scams would be to simply understand that a good model doesn't need classes or even a portfolio beforehand. If a model has what it takes - the right looks, attitude and body, he or she can simply walk in to any reputed modelling agency and they will pay for a portfolio. However, if the agency doesn't have a lot of financial backing, they might suggest a reputed portfolio making service provider, and it is best to go to such a place only.
