New York, NY (prHWY.com) October 25, 2012 - Ever since Colin Aliff joined the medical profession, and even going back to his days in medical school, he has seen that over the past two decades, prescription drug abuse is on the rise. While working as an attending physician at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia, Colin Aliff witnessed countless patients come in to seek medical attention with the sole purpose of having the doctor write them a prescription.

Colin Aliff states, "In the past, it wasn't quite as noticeable that people were perhaps falsifying symptoms in order to obtain drugs." Back in those days, doctors trusted that their patients were not lying to them. In this day and age, though, doctors need to be extra vigilant about monitoring their patient's use of painkillers.

"Oftentimes, patients become hooked on painkillers following an invasive procedure. They get so used to being on the drug, that they may sometimes experience a degree of withdrawal when the drug is no longer required for pain management," describes Colin Aliff. This is when physicians need to pay particular attention.

"If a patient comes in and continues to feel some degree of pain, it might be easy to see that they need more painkillers," argues Colin Aliff. "Where it becomes incredibly problematic is when you have the same patient trying to get in to see the doctor several times a month to have that same prescription renewed." And if that doesn't work, they will skip from doctor to doctor until they can find somebody who will help them get a prescription.

As a concerned physician and certified law enforcement officer, Colin Aliff is dedicated to teaching the public and medical personnel all about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. People can sometimes lose their lives through horrible addictions to prescription drugs, and Colin Aliff is on a mission to help educate people about the very real risks involved with using prescription drugs recreationally.

Colin Aliff has been especially concerned lately by how many teenagers are arriving in local emergency rooms, unconscious from some bad prescription drug mishap. "One of my goals in educating people about the risks of prescription drug abuse is not to just scare off the teenagers. I want them to know that there isn't any major judgment coming from me. Rather, I just want to let them know about the very real and lethal risk of mixing prescription drugs that shouldn't be mixed.
