Atlanta, GA (prHWY.com) March 31, 2011 - For the third consecutive year, Peachtree Spine Physicians, an independent physiatry practice in Atlanta, Georgia, served as a sponsor for The Pink Affair. The Pink Affair is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) North Fulton Link Alumnae Chapter whose proceeds benefit non-profit organizations involved in breast cancer research, awareness, support, rehabilitation and education. This year's event, the 10th annual, took place on Saturday, March 19th at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. Dr. Jeffrey S. Grossman, M.D., a non-surgical lumbar and cervical specialist with Peachtree Spine Physicians, was also in attendance to show his support of the The Pink Affair's mission. The mission includes informing the local community about the importance of breast cancer education and involving individuals from the local community in the fight against breast cancer, in addition to donating proceeds from its fundraising efforts.
One of the benefactors for The Pink Affair is TurningPoint, a non-profit healthcare organization whose clinic provides rehabilitation for women with breast cancer, including physical therapy, massage therapy, counseling and nutritional counseling. John Guzowski, the CFO for Peachtree Spine Physicians, serves on the board for TurningPoint, and it was through Peachtree Spine's interaction with TurningPoint that the opportunity arose to become involved with The Pink Affair. In addition to the monetary support distributed through The Pink Affair, Peachtree Spine physicians has also been able to support TurningPoint by donating exam room space for patient care at their treatment facilities.
"Obviously there is a need for funding for research to help find a cure for breast cancer, but what attracted myself, and Peachtree Spine, to both The Pink Affair and TurningPoint, was their shared emphasis on support and education about breast cancer and its treatment options for those suffering with this disease and the local community," explained Dr. Grossman. "At Peachtree Spine, we may be treating back and spinal disorders, but our main goal is to improve the quality of our patients' lives, and I think that same principle is at the core of The Pink Affair and TurningPoint - promoting an overall healthier community in which individuals can enjoy their daily lives to the fullest extent."
According to statistics, about 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime.
