Designer Storage Pods Add Unique Twist to Storage Needs
A new trend is making its way to the storage pod industry - designer storage pods. Most people who use storage pods know that the interior of the structure tends to be dull, dimly lit and kind of musty, but a new storage pod company is trying
"There is just something about storage pods that tends to give off this depressed feeling", said Rodger Highland, owner of Brighter Days Storage Pods. "I thought that I'd do my best to try and change the industry and that is where the idea for designer storage pods came."
Rodger Highland has teamed up with several local artists in the Chicago area. These artists were given the opportunity to submit their interior design ideas for the storage pod units. The artists were given the opportunity to decorate the small, medium or large units, or all three.
"I wanted to give up and coming artists the chance to be seen", said Highland. "I didn't want to go with big name artists; I wanted to go with someone who could really benefit from my ideas. After all, you never know who will be seeing these designs."
The local artists submitted interior design ideas that ranged from brightly painted spaces to themed storage units. One local artist submitted a Halloween themed storage pod. The whole unit would be painted in orange and black. It would also feature several paintings and items that are usually associated with the holiday.
"Lots of people use storage pods as a way to store holiday decorations", said Thomas Cliff, the local artist behind the Halloween themed storage pod. "I thought these people could choose a storage pod that matched the decorations they stored. It would bring a unique twist to the storage experience."
Brighter Days Storage Pods recently launched its brighter, decorated units about two months ago. Rodger Highland has seen an almost 50% increase in business since the introduction to the community.
"There are people who said that they just didn't know about renting a storage pod because they couldn't bear the thought of going inside", said Highland. "Now I've people lining up to rent one. I even had to make a waiting list for some of the units they are just that popular."
Rodger Highland plans on taking his unique idea national. He is currently in talks with several business partners who are thinking of opening a new branch up in Las Vegas and California by the end of the year.
