Mary Ann "Polly" Nichols Murdered on 31st August

Cambridgeshire, NY (prHWY.com) August 21, 2012 - August 21, 2012 - Child of Edward and Caroline Walker, married to William Nicholls who she had 5 children with, theirs was a shaky marriage with numerous separations, some say due to her heavy drinking, she claims her husband was having an affair with the nurse that helped during the birth of their first child and he claims she was practicing prostitution while they were still together.

When Mary left William the final time she ended up living with her father between 24th March and 21st May 1883 and they argued often over the amount she drank. It did seem Mary cleaned herself up when she entered a relationship with Thomas Drew, a blacksmith. When her brother died in 1886 she attended his funeral, Mary was described as being sober and looking respectfully dressed. However when this relationship ended, Polly seemed to struggle.

On the 30th August Mary Ann was out working and was seen around 11pm with a man, she was then found by a carter at 3.40am on the 31st August, dead.

Mary Ann's throat was slashed so deeply the head was nearly severed, 5 teeth were missing and her abdomen was brutally ripped open from the breast bone leaving her intestines exposed. He legs were open and her skirts round her waist and her arms by her side. The carter straightened her legs and put her skirt back down to protect her modesty.

It was confirmed that she was killed where she was found, but none of the occupants of houses near by heard anything at all.

At Mary Ann's inquest her father said "She had no enemies, she was too good for that" and other seem to back that up with even her room-mate saying she was a quiet girl who kept herself to herself.
