Washington, D.C. (prHWY.com) August 17, 2012 - 17 August 2012, USA, Washington(Zeepharmact.com): As per the statistical data made available, Cuba claims that it has been successful in eliminating the detrimental viral disease hepatitis B from the lives of children aged below 15 years and all the credit for achieving this task goes to the locally developed vaccine under a huge immunization campaign.
Maria Fonte Reyes, an expert from the Health Ministry said that the vaccine called Heberbiovac HB has been manufactured by a company of Havana called the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and from that date, the country has not informed any cases of this detrimental viral infection in children under 15 years and this has been for almost 23 years now.
The country has immunized every newborn child with the vaccine against hepatitis B since 1992 and this approach has lead to a drastic fall in the number of individuals getting afflicted with the condition.

The country reports that around 1989 hepatitis cases were being found before infections, whereas as per the statistical evidence the current hepatitis cases found at the end of 2011 was only 21. And this drastic fall in the hepatitis cases which accounts for around 99.09 is being attributed to the fact that every individual under the age of 31 years is being immunized.
The country claims that the current cases of hepatitis B infection are those reported by individuals above 31 years of age. Although, every newborn is being vaccinated but as a measure of precaution, individuals belonging to high risk groups such as health staff, dialysis patients and students are also being immunized.
It is a known fact that hepatitis B infection is caused by Hepatitis B virus that spreads by contact of humans with fluids and causes inflammation of the liver that may progress to chronic liver complications.
