Businesses of All Kinds are Saving Time and Money with New Technologies

Putting in the money for new tools and the time to train employees how to use them is an essential to a thriving business.

Businesses across the nation are finding success introducing one such technology, third party logistics ("3pl") software. Any company that gets products from a warehouse or tracks raw materials through production should be using 3pl software.

Steve Richburg, owner of a small public warehouse in Orlando, Florida has been using third party logistics software for years. "My business wouldn't be where it is without it," he explains. "Even for small businesses it helps a lot. Everything is just more organized and easy to access, making it easier to manage the spaces we rent out. I never noticed how many losses we were having, and how much time we were wasting, before using the software."

On the other side of things, another business owner in the area, Phillip McCartney, sees the other side of introducing management software to a business. "The job the computer does is taking the place of someone in the community. In a country where lack of jobs is leaving people scraping by on unemployment checks and unable to support their families, we have to salvage every job we can."

Richburg addressed the issue McCartney brought up. "As a small business owner, I can't afford to hire new employees and keep my business going. Using computers helps keep my doors open and even keeps me out of the red. Maybe if profits go up I would be able to take on more staff, but that's not realistic now."

The dilemma of man vs. machine in the workplace has always seemed to follow the trend of replacing manpower with technology, and a lot of long term benefits have come from it. Workplaces across the board are more safe and efficient thanks to machines. There is also the ongoing demand for new machines and technology, creating jobs for developers and producers of products that haven't even been imagined yet. The call for new ideas is what keeps us moving forward and growing as a global community. Without new inventions and technology to increase productivity, even at the cost of outgrowing jobs fulfilled with manpower, we would never improve, which benefits no one.
