Innovation and Commercialization Expert Montie Roland Takes Part in Sen. Burr's Advanced Technologies Forum Panel
Participates in Discussion on Modeling and Simulation for DoD Needs
The Symposium, focusing on the future advanced technology needs of DoD and other federal agencies, was hosted by U.S. Senator Richard Burr at The Friday Center in Chapel Hill and attracted approximately 400 attendees.
"Having a 'big picture' mentality when focusing on something specific like modeling and simulation helps address changing business and technology issues, especially in the fluid military and defense space," Roland, president of Montie Design, said.
As generalists, the Montie Design team operates in multiple industries and looks to vacuums in trends, bringing a unique third-party perspective and experience of other industries into consideration of clients' product concepts. Often times requiring a cross-functional team involving software, electronic/circuit design, firmware, mechanical, industrial design (ID), and PCB layout contributors, these projects necessitate taking a product-to-marketplace approach, as opposed to a technology-only focus.
"Getting too bogged-down in technology lends itself to less than superior finished products," Roland explained.
Topics discussed during Roland's panel discussion included what technologies the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard are currently looking for, how to package and prepare technology in a way that the DoD will accept, and planning for the upcoming sequestration -- $500 billion in automatic federal budget cuts over a decade beginning in January 2013 -- and its impact on defense contractors.
An expansion of the NCMBC's Federal IT Symposia in 2010 and 2011, the objective of the Federal Advanced Technologies Symposium is to establish a dialogue between industry, academia and government and form partnerships to address the future needs of the federal government to meet the challenges ahead.
By actively participating in regional and national defense industry educational and networking opportunities, Montie Design provides its insights and experience to help a multitude of product design-related communities achieve excellence. Company President Montie Roland serves on numerous committees and panels, speaking regularly at industry events. Montie Design regularly exhibits at NC Defense Business Association and North Carolina Military Business Center events.
