25th Annual Spring Valley Education Foundation Auctions Items to Support Educational Excellence
The Spring Valley Education Foundation is hosting a live and silent auction on February 26th at 6 p.m. at The Member Club at Wildewood Tennis Center.

The live and silent auction will benefit academics at Spring Valley High School and provide students and teachers with the "extras" not available through normal funding, including the best equipment, enrichment, resource materials, innovative programs and educational opportunities.
The auction will feature over 200 items including beach houses at Garden City and Surfside, a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport SUV, diamond earrings worth $895 from Carolina Fine Jewelry, tickets and memberships to the Midlands' best cultural and green organizations, two Keith Urban tickets and two nights at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island beachfront resort.
One very special item that will be auctioned off comes from a Spring Valley High School graduate who won the 2010 National Book Award for Poetry. Terrance Hayes will be donating a signed copy of his award- winning poetry collection called "Lighthead." His poems have appeared in literary journals and magazines including The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Fence, The Kenyon Review, Jubilat Harvard Review, West Branch and Poetry.
Due to increased public school funding cuts, the Spring Valley High School Math, Science and Technology Magnet school relies more and more heavily on direct support from this auction for under-funded programs and cutting-edge resources that include ongoing free after school tutoring and testing, scanning spectroscopy equipment, digital imaging equipment for students learning professional software applications, which are all funded via the 2011 auction.
Proceeds average forty thousand to sixty thousand dollars annually, and the auction usually attracts over 300 attendees every year.
The silent auction emcee will be Anne Postic who writes a well- known blog about shopping and dining in Columbia called "The Shop Tart." For the live auction, the mistress of ceremonies will be Alicia Barnes, an ABC Columbia News Anchor.
Tickets will be on sale for $20 prior to the event and will be $25 at the door.
