The Whittled Class is Replacing the Middle Class

NY, NY (prHWY.com) January 28, 2011 - "Most Americans haven't had a real raise in 30 years, leading to the erosion of what was once a mighty middle class. Not since the Great Depression has there been such a wide gap between the haves and the have-nots", says publisher, Bruce David.

The new social class in America is made up of what were formerly middle class citizens, being shifted into what we're terming, the whittled class, David notes.

Recent Census Bureau statistics and a 2009 report on mobility patterns in the United States from the PEW Institute bear this out and this is not good news for America where upward mobility is becoming a memory.

Despite the notion our economy is slowly improving, there is no substance to the expression of a 'jobless recovery.' Pay scales, benefits, pensions and job opportunities have all been whittled down. The one exception has been in government jobs where benefits and pay packages exceed the private sector by an average of 40% and even the public sector is feeling the pinch as governments go broke. The middle class in America has fallen behind virtually every European nation and that could spell the demise of the United States, which in many respects, now resembles a third world country.
Economists are forecasting another nine million Americans could default on their mortgages in 2011, further eroding the American Dream. The cost of living is rapidly rising, hurting seniors and low income people alike, yet Congress denied cost of living raises for the second year to senior citizens.

There are no easy answers and both political parties can share the blame. While Congress continues to get its annual raise and gold plated perks, our country is slipping in terms of income inequality to that of third world nations according to a recent report from the United Nations.

"Perhaps we need another 'economic bill of rights,' as once proposed by President Roosevelt. The Washington-Wall Street Cartel has promoted policies during the past 30 years which are decimating the nation," adds David.

David is the publisher of a weekly bulletin on urban survival strategies and the PoorManSurvival.com site.
