Renovating doesn't add the value it used to

United Kingdom, United Kingdom (prHWY.com) July 19, 2012 - HSBC recently carried out a survey on Home improvements. According to the report, a new kitchen, bathroom or loft extension will still boost the value of your home, but not to the extent it did several years ago. In fact, in recent years, it is more likely to cost you money, than make you money.

With the slowdown of the housing market, many people are renovating, creating more rooms, space and light in their home and therefore the addition of a new loft will not have the unique 'wow' factor that many homes achieved in previous years. A new loft is much more commonplace, and many people with little extra funds want a turn-key property.

Building materials are much more expensive at present, and therefore this is also having an impact on home improvement projects especially where financial gain is the primary aim for homeowners.

Last year the installation of a newly fitted kitchen would add £4,577 to the value of your property, which is a 19% fall on 2010.

One solution is giving your kitchen a facelift. This is ideal if you want to sell your property but with a much better specification of kitchen, or even if you would like to live in the property yourself and decorate/regenerate an old, tired or old fashioned kitchen. A kitchen facelift can be done in one day with minimal distruption and, more importantly, cost.

David Ball of KitchenSmart says:

"We provide a fantastic range of fitted cupboard doors in hundreds of colours, as well as worktops, accessories and appliances. In just one day we can make your kitchen look like a completely new refit. This is ideal for those with minimal renovation funds or those who want to improve the home they intend on staying in. You can get exactly the kitchen you want without the high price tag."
