CA, CA (prHWY.com) June 30, 2012 - Weight plays a crucial role in adjudging suitability of an item for use in many of the human activities. But what is weight? One experiences it when one lifts an object particularly if it is a heavy object. Due to gravitational attraction the earth pulls an object towards it, and it is this pull which gives you the feeling of weight, as you have to counter it when you lift the object. More the weight more will be the pull. Various types of scales have been devised for weighing. You can see the latest types of scales you can see at www.paylessscales.com. An earlier type of scale had a beam and two pans hanging at its two ends. Here the pull exerted by the earth is used to way the object. The object is placed on one pan and gradually more and more known weights are placed on the other pan. When the beam becomes horizontal the weight of the object equals the total of weights kept on the other pan. In a spring balance the object is hung on a hook fixed below the spring. The weight of the object stretches the spring. The length to which it is stretched is used to determine the weight. In an electronic scale changes in the electrical properties of a material when it is compressed by the weight of an object is used to determine its weight.

For most of the modern scales the object to be weighed is placed on a platform provided in the scale. In factories and warehouses some very heavy items have to be weighed. It becomes a bit problematic to raise a heavy object to the level of the platform. It may be risky as well. In a floor scale the platform is mostly at the floor level or a few inches above it. It is not possible to always have it at the floor level because there has to be a weighing mechanism below the platform and it cannot be managed to keep it below the floor level in some cases.

There are digital floor scales which show the weight on a display. You can also look for and select the floor scales on the internet. You can know more about floor scales at www.paylessscales.com.
