Here at American Custom Design Woodworking, one of the most common questions that we get is, "What do you mean when you say 'custom wood working?'"

There many ways to answer that question. The simplest answer is that custom wood working encompasses any wood that is milled, shaped or finished according to your specifications. Custom wood pieces have special features that are not available from store-bought pieces (which are literally "run-of-the-mill").

Speaking of mills, custom mill work is one of our most popular products. Mill work (which is sometimes written as "millwork") is lumber that has been run through a planer or shaper so that it meets your exact specifications. For example, many interior designers and architects find that the standard baseboards available at a place like Home Depot are made from an ugly wood, or else they are too bland or too narrow. With custom mill work, you can specify the shape of the trim, the wood that it's made from, the finish that we polish it with and the length that we cut it to. We can even come to the job site to take measurements for your pieces so that you can be sure that each length of baseboard will be cut to fit your project.

Custom wood doors are another popular product of American Custom Design's workshops. Because we have an in-house glass shop, we can assemble doors with custom glass insets. As a bonus, we can deliver them in a more timely fashion than many other woodworkers, because we don't have to order them from another workshop. Of course, we can also customize the shape of the door, the finish of the wood, and anything else that you specify for your new custom door.
