Sports Rehabilitation in Westchester
Executive Park PT offers two locations in Yonkers and Elmsford. Lead by Dr. Ivan Hernandez, Executive Park PT is an excellent choice for your physical therapy.

For Ivan Hernandez, recovery from a physical ailment is a partnership between him and his patient.
Hernandez is a physical therapist. He owns and operates Executive Park Physical Therapy with offices in Yonkers and Elmsford. He has a staff of a dozen including two other therapists.
"While a patient may be experiencing a physical problem for the first time, I've experienced it many times," Hernandez said, "so I'm familiar with the sequence of events leading to recovery.
"I convey confidence to my patient that he or she can and will recover from ailments," Hernandez said. "I give my patients a glimpse of the whole picture and their part in the process. I impress upon them they will bet better, that there will be resolution to their problems."
Hernandez said it's important to convey information in a way that's meaningful.
"I use real-life examples. I tell them I want them to be able to climb stairs, to lift their children, to go shopping."
Hernandez has always been interested in fitness and played lots of baseball. It was the pre-med magnet program at Gorton High School in Yonkers that got him on the path to become a physical therapist. He graduated in the first doctor of physical therapy class at New York University in 2001.
He keeps current with the latest treatment by reading the most recent findings and attaining board certifications. He has also taught at New York Medical College.
Hernandez treats a wide variety of ailments, musculoskeletal problems such as tennis elbow and knee problems; and neuro-muscular problems such as pinched nerves and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to accidents and sports injuries, computer use creates repetitive strain injuries.
For the most common of physical ailments, back pain, Hernandez is a proponent of spinal decompression therapy involves computerized mechanical pulling removing excessive pressure from discs. Decompressing the spine alleviates pressure on intervertebral discs and nerves and elongates soft tissues to reduce spasm, thereby leading to pain relief.
On a recent Thursday a steady flow of patients, young and old, with a broad range of problems kept Hernandez and his staff busy in the Elmsford office.
Barbara Prisament of Hastings-on-Hudson received treatment for a shoulder pull. But she had initially started coming to Executive Park PT last September for problems with her feet. With a smile she said her feet were healed after receiving electrodes on her feet, ultra sound, deep tissue massage, stretching and heat therapy.
"I'm thrilled," Prisament said. "I've resumed my regular activities, including using the elliptical exercise machine, hiking and dancing. I'm in good hands."
Lydia Hoell of Yonkers is recovering from a rotator cuff injury. Hernandez explained that recovering from such an injury involves neuro-muscular re-education as well as strengthening. He said that fatigue is often a factor in injuries: Most sports injuries occur at the end of a game; skiing injuries occur at the end of the day.
Physical therapy aide Melanie DeLaCruz, a sophomore occupational therapy major at Mercy College, worked with Antoinette Cattarini, who had suffered a broken foot while working at her next-door restaurant, Rini's.
Matthew Stein of Ardsley suffered a shoulder tear while playing basketball at Westchester Community College. He's been coming to Executive Park PT so he doesn't have to sit out for the season. He has been getting heat therapy while doing exercises to strengthen his shoulder and stretching to increase mobility.
"The staff here is very interactive," Stein said. "They check me along the way to make sure I'm comfortable."
Bob Kalian of Hartsdale is recovering from a total knee replacement. He had previously come to Executive Park PT to help him recover from a double knee operation.
"They're good people here," Kalian said. They give you personal attention - they are right with you.
"You get the feeling that you are being treated as an individual, rather than a commodity.
In other places, you're on your own.
"Ivan is very dedicated."
And his patients are dedicated, too: Convinced that they will get better, that their pain will subside, that they are partners in the recovery process.
