The Jordanian Peacekeepers Continue to Help Needy Schools and Orphanages in Haiti

Since the January 12 earthquake, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has sent two C130 aircraft with relief supplies to assist international efforts.

Pembroke Pines, FL (prHWY.com) June 1, 2012 - Pembroke Pines, FL, May 31, 2012 -- In order to support the victims of the earthquake and the poor communities, Peacekeepers from the Jordanian Battalion (JORBAT) of the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) continue to donate food, school supplies, toys and clothing (donated by King Abdullah II) to many schools and orphanages.

This initiative has already benefited to many schools and orphanages. Recently, God's Children Ministries with its Executive Director in Haiti, Waner Jerome welcomed the peacekeepers to receive food for fifteen orphanages and twenty six schools.
Waner Jerome and Pastor Moliere Liberius, President of Mission Evangelique Internationale (International Evangelical Mission) received in Calebasse, (a remote area where in there is only a small medical clinic) many boxes of medicines from the Jordanian Battalion.

"This is definitely not enough, and will not suffice in any way, but it surely is a small step towards helping a nation in so much need at the moment said Waner Jerome. In addition, the Jordanian Battalion puts its medical skills to the service of the close disadvantaged municipalities and neighborhoods by organizing regular consultation sessions and distribution of drugs free of charge. With support from Canada, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is assisting Haiti through projects in areas such as governance, environment, poverty reduction, crisis prevention and HIV / AIDS.

Security and humanitarian crises are two issues inextricably linked. In this regard, Haiti is a paradoxical case because the ongoing situation in the country is not a classic case of humanitarian emergency. Indeed, insecurity in Haiti is manifested primarily as economic factors such as poverty, unemployment and lack of basic social services. Economic reconstruction of Haiti thus requires the development of a stable and secure country.

International donors play a role in reconstruction efforts in Haiti. The United States of America and Canada are working closely with donor countries to ensure consensus in the areas of policy, institutional, economic and security. The Jordanian Battalion is proud to contribute to international efforts to help the Haitian people, who worked for two years to recover from the earthquake that struck the country. They respect the commitment they made to the Haitians to help them rebuild their communities. When a school, an orphanage or an organization is requesting their assistance, they go there, to assess priorities to respond to the most effective way, said Major Mahmud coordinator of the social assistance program of the Jordanian battalion in MINUSTAH.

While the needs are still great, Jordanians must be proud of their contribution, which can improve the daily lives of the Haitian population. The Haitian government said they are grateful for the generosity of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the support from the Jordanian battalion in many areas, including the intervention immediately following the earthquake.
