Seattle, WA (prHWY.com) May 3, 2012 - It is no surprise that the housing market is in a downward spiral. There are just too many people looking to sell and not enough people able or willing to purchase homes. This makes for an extremely tough time for real estate agents and people looking to sell homes. One agent based out of Portland, Oregon has come up with a real estate marketing method that not only lures prospective buyers to a home, but encourages them to buy.

Chris Glover has perfected the art of themed open houses. Each home that he sells has been given a unique and individual theme, which is represented at the open houses.

"I had to think of a way to get people into the houses", explained Chris Glover. "These houses are beautiful, and some of them are a steal, but if no one comes to see them they can't know they should buy them. That's where the themed open houses came about."

Each home is given a unique theme which is carried over in various activities and displays. A recent open house hosted by Glover featured a Shakespearian theme. All the rooms had various paintings representing Shakespeare's works, and actors acted out parts of various plays every 15 minutes.

In addition to the painting and acting, Glover hired local gourmet chef, Hillary Hollows, to feature a buffet of Shakespearian food. People could come experience the arts and food, and tour the house at leisure.

"This is really about attracting people to the home", said Glover. "I don't fill the rooms with junk, but I do fill them with just enough that people can still see what the house would be like if they brought it."

Chris Glover advertises his open houses in various newspapers and online listings. He has even gone as far as to advertise them with local groups that share the same interest as the themed event.

"I am planning on hosting several more open houses like this", said Glover. "The most recent one - a sci-fi/Mars theme helped the house sell after only 10 days on the market."

All of the homes Glover has used the themed open houses have not only sold, but have sold above asking price; some as much as $78,000 over asking price. Glover plans to have a zombie themed open house next month, followed by a jungle theme, Hawaiian theme, and other events in the near future.
