Sci-fi/Fantasy Fans Tough it Out for Prizes at Crazy Convention
Attending a sci-fi/fantasy convention is all about getting to experience a wild and crazy side of life.

"Every year we like to offer several different games that convention attendee can take part in", said convention planner Deidre Connors. "This year we decided to create one of our biggest and most interactive games ever."
The scavenger hunt style game requires that players download a version of an e-discovery software program. In addition to downloading this software they are required to download several versions of popular books such as "Lord of the Rings" and "Alice in Wonderland".
"The scavenger hunt game is fairly simple", said Connors. "We will give contestant several clues that will require them to use the software program to search and find specific passages in favorite books. These passages when put together will lead them to a part of the convention, where they will get their next clue, and so on and so forth."
Each scavenger hunt team is made up of three people. The clues will take each team around the convention and to various booths, exhibits, and activities that are at the convention.
"It's a great way to get to meet other people you might not have met otherwise during the convention", said scavenger hunt participant Gary Smith. "There is always a habit of having people stick to their tiny little group of people at conventions. This kind of forces you to interact and talk to other people you wouldn't normally talk to."
The scavenger hunt is set up for 30 players, or 10 teams. The teams will be playing for prizes such as free tickets to next year's convention, books, gift cards, and trips.
"At first I was playing just for the chance to win a prize", said scavenger hunt participant Molly Midas. "Then I realized that this was really something cool, and I didn't care if I won or lost."
This year's scavenger hunt was such a success that Deidre Connors plans on including it in next year's convention.
"There were so many people who wanted to play that I think next year we'll make it bigger and better", said Connors.
