AG Alabama Is All Against Slot Machines - Writes A Letter To Indian Gambling Commission
"Alabama tribes are running Las Vegas style slot machines illegally; no State level compact supports these electronic gaming machines," says Luther Strange, Alabama Attorney General, in his letter, written on April 25, 2012,

Strange revealed in the letter that Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama is offering the same Las Vegas style gambling, but in disguise of Class II bingo games. He further stresses that it has become harder for his office to implement State law because of the vague line drawn between Class II and Class III games by the Tribes. They are also making the Alabama citizens confused by naming the slot machines as bingo machines. However, Strange affirmed that Stat law couldn't be cheated by this publicity stunt.
The Attorney is forcing the federal agency to put ban on all these casinos that are involved in illegal business according to Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Strange has been working against the electronic bingo machines operated by casinos in non Indian Territory of the Alabama State. He says that he is following the footsteps of former governor, Bob Riley.
"It has weakened the position of the State while implementing the law in the State, but the federal authority will not consider about implementing it in the tribal lands," says Sonny Reagan, Deputy Attorney General of Alabama State.
The Commission has objected the authority of Strange over the casinos in Indian Lands. However, Attorney General has asked the Commission to mark the distinction line between Bingo and Bingo-like slot games. He has demanded authority from the Commission regarding implementation of law in the Indian land or make the difference clear themselves between both machine types in accordance to IGRA act.
On responding to the letter of Strange, Daniel K. McGhee, the Administrator of Tribal Gaming Commission, says that it's an open attack on tribal lands' sovereignty and the letter itself is offensive in nature. He further says that they will present their views on slot machines, being operated in Tribal Lands, in front of the Commission and will defend their case.
